Koshi-ita is the stiff board-like section on the back of a hakama. Use of the koshi ita seems to have begun around the early part of the Edo period or perhaps late in the sixteenth century. Before that time, the back of the hakama was flat and level, just as the front continues to be made to today.

I started practicing Aikido in 2000. It instantly became one of my main interests. And the rest is history.
